Yes, that is correct. Not quite as popular as the actual Olympics, the Marblelympics, run by Jelle’s Marble Runs, is a remarkably sophisticated series of Olympic-inspired events where marbles face off against each other in the hopes of winning the overall title.
Newcomers battle fan favourites, previous giants suffer great losses, individual marbles become household names (ok maybe not, though I’ve had more conversations than I ever thought I would about teams of marbles [Go Midnight Wisps!]).
If any of this sounds interesting then check out Jelle’s Marble Runs.
You can watch the events of the 2019 MarbleLympics individually, or if you have a few hours you can always check out the whole series in one. Video is below. Today’s post was just a little intro. Next week I’ll try dive into the fascination behind this bizarre sport and seek an answer to why the channel has close to 500,000 subscribers and over 30 million views.
